Wild Expectations for 2010

I’ve had time off, of course I have, in the last three years but I haven’t had a proper holiday.   What’s the difference?   Time off constitutes something I am coming to enjoy more and more, downtime in my own home.   Its peaceful, I get to enjoy Augusts in the UK and I get lots of self-care jobs done which feels lovely.   And holidays involve “abroad”!   When I first went into coaching, I took on an empowering belief from Thomas Leonard that no-one wanted to be coached during August or December so planned my working year thus. And my next intention [...]

Do You Have What It Takes To Be Rich?

Philip Beresford, author of The Richest of the Rich, is quoted in today’s Mail on Sunday in an article about the Money Gene, thus: “You need massive energy, single-minded focus, self-confidence and the ability to arrange your social life so that it comes second.” What do you think?   Do you have those qualities?   Are you prepared for that sacrifice?

Thrifty Thoughts

I posted on the Money Gym forum today about thrift.   Having spent a month with lots of American snowbirds during December, I noticed their thrifty habits, no doubt designed to eek out their scant pensions and make them go further in the slightly cheaper, definitely warmer Caribbean. I notice that they order dinner, eat half and take the other half home for another meal, tomorrow? And I notice that they care about every dollar, taking a bag where a box would have cost them that dollar. And this is just how it should be, but its not how I instinctively [...]

Snow Brings Out The Best In Britons

Working at home these last couple of days, in the snow, I wondered if various delivery men would make it.   The man from the laundry, Amazon C/o Citilink (notoriously unreliable) and Viking.   To be really honest with you, it wouldn’t have mattered if none of them had made it through, nothing was a matter of life or death. But oddly, they all made it through.   And on my doorstep I cheered them as heroes, including my postman.   As I said on Twitter today, I am the first to slag off a postie when he’s on strike, and he’s a lazy blighter [...]

No Way To Start 2010 – What’s Slipped Your Mind?

I sprang out of bed at 0815 this morning because I was expecting a tradesman, long appointed, at 0830.   I think its fair to assume, don’t you, that at 0830 on the first working day of 2010 I was, in fact, his first business appointment, his first customer of 2010? And he didnt show up.   So just before lunchtime I rang him and he said I had “slipped his mind”.   Since all he has to do in his business is show up and service clients, this is no way to start a new business year, no way to have happy [...]

Happy New Horoscope

Yes, I know horoscopes are unmitigated balderdash to be read and forgotten instantly but I took pleasure in mine (Taurus) in yesterday’s paper courtesy of Sally Brompton: If you can think it you can do it this week.   And if that means a change of scenery or direction, cosmic activity in the most freewheeling area of your chart makes this the ideal time to embrace it.   If nothing else, your mind will change about at least one of your most ingrained beliefs and spur you on to greater – and very different – heights. Bring it on.   I’m definitely up [...]

Caribbean Christmas 30: Travelling Hopefully

I’m coming home today and that’s a phrase full of mixed emotions.   Once the day of my flight dawns, I’m keen to get the travelling over with especially considering how fraught with difficulties that can be in this day and age.   Now that I am up early and enjoying the dawn, I wish I could just rock up at the airport and get on with it.   But my flight doesn’t take off until 1700.   So what to do with my last few hours? I’m excited to be coming home, being reunited with Mitsy and all that is familiar to me, [...]
