This Week’s Joy Report

After a difficult weekend where I made the terrible mistake of reading far too much terrifying news online, after dark, in the big blue-white glare of my iPad, after the world political events of Friday 20th January 2017, things perked up yesterday. Here are this week’s reasons to be cheerful: Movies – Lion with Dev Patel (wonderful) and Jackie with Natalie Portman (wouldn’t have mattered to me if I had missed this one). A client gave me a 20 percent pay rise, all of his own volition. Abundance incoming. Three clients renewed for a full year’s work in advance with […]

Oscars 2017: Stickiness Underfoot

I love cinema, so did my Mum. She transferred that love to me via Gone With the Wind (an asbolute marathon at the cinema with interval sandwiches!) to Saturday afternoon movies together (one of the few things we did share as the antidote to the interminable sport on TV at our house) to old black and white ones (still love B&W, me) to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Her favourite actors included Kirk Douglas, Charlton Heston, Alan Ladd, Cary Grant and many more. She had an eye for the chaps, it must be said, and in her heyday she could […]

Love My Life

I Love My Life is my new creation, a collaborative personal development project inspired by Robbie Williams’ tune of the same name. Thanks to Robbie we are reminded that we are powerful, beautiful, wonderful, magical and free. And that we can find the others with hearts like ours. ILML is a group for employed people, self-employed people, unemployed people, retired people and those resting or questing, and it is all about: Embracing change Happiness Freedom Appreciating daily life Gratitude New beginnings (and endings) Inspiration Life being ridiculously amazing Possibilities Opportunities Dreams coming true Being and having anything you want Doing small […]

Your Innate Talents

One of the things I love to do best with my clients is work with them on businesses which are based around the things they love. And this often involves their innate talents, things they are just naturally good at. The problem with that, if there is one, is that we tend to take for granted the things we are just naturally good at and not place much value on them ourselves since they have been in our lives so long, we’ve just forgotten that they are our gifts or are too modest to call them that. Such things include […]

The Grand Plan

Somebody I know a little bit seems to have moved herself into a campervan with her dog and be living her life on the move. And today I asked her on Facebook if she had a grand plan, or if she was just going with the flow. Right now, she’s in beautiful photogenic coastal Cornwall. Bliss. The reason behind my question was I didn’t know the whole back story, as we say these days. I hadn’t been watching as she’d made up her mind to do this, so I didn’t know what was behind it, if anything. I didn’t know […]

A Sea Change

I am drawing a lot of people into my work right now who want to consult about making a Really Big Change in their lives. A sea change. A profound or notable transformation. Out with the old and in with the new. That sort of a change. I suspect this is because I am doing this myself. I am selling up in London, my home town since 1977, with a view to taking my life and business on the road as always intended since at least 2006. My podcast partner has been inspired and spurred on to do the same, […]

Podcast Ep 98: Digital Addiction Makes You Unhappy

In today’s episode of the podcast, episode 98, Nicola and I debate our digital addiction.  Not just ours, but that shared by almost all smartphone users where it is well documented that people check their phones 83 times a day, about twice as much as they estimate they do. You know you’ve got a problem when the bright white light keeps you awake in the night because you find it difficult to detach at bedtime. I know that if I make the mistake of checking mine in the middle of the night, I will NEVER get back to sleep! Apparently […]

My Dream Beyond the Laptop Lifestyle

My own dream began to take shape, in waking hours, in the summer of 2002 while I was holidaying in France. We were staying in a lovely little house across the road from the owners, two Brits who had fled from Brighton and bought a place in France, thus acquiring their own dream. I fell into discussion with them about living the dream as I was floating in their pool beneath a cherry tree in full blossom. Although I had already sold my accountancy business, I was tied to the UK for my income because I still had relationships with […]

Quiet Time

I write regularly and talk often to my clients about the importance of looking after ourselves as business owners. This is something I always mean to get around to, but don’t always prioritise. Then something will happen which brings wellness higher up my list, such as feeling a bit under the weather, or the unexpected serious illness or death of someone close to me. Such events remind us all about what’s really important. Having spent some years getting deeper and deeper into the more spiritual side of my own nature, I truly know what’s important to me. This moment. Now. Historically I […]
