Want to be Self-Employed but No Idea Where to Start?

Sometimes I make the mistake of thinking I’ve heard everything. No sooner do I do that than people turn up to surprise me. This week I met a very sensible Creator. Who even knew they existed when we thought they were all head in the clouds? Turned out she did have books full of ideas somewhere, ideas on the back-burner, she had just parked them for a while. I told you already, she’s sensible. Phew! My world went all topsy-turvy there for a bit. Then I met someone who had had the spark of creativity lit within her Starry self […]

Want -v- Should

There’s a bit of a recurring theme with my new clients this week, they’ve got two really great ideas for different businesses and they want to do X as well as Y. It falls to me to tell them that if they do both, it’s like running in lanes 1 and 2 in the 100 meter race, you aren’t going to win and you’ll be lucky if you finish before the next race starts. Or like being the jockey on two horses in one race, going nowhere fast. It’s a horrid job, because I am a Scanner too, but someone’s […]

What Is An Entrepreneur And Why Do I Love Them?

Do you consider yourself to be an entrepreneur? One of the ways clients illustrate to me that they are an entrepreneur is when they start talking about all the ideas they have.   They’ve got so many good ideas for a business, but they have no idea how to begin to make any money. Oh dear. My job is then to persuade them to pick the best one and run with that.   And we work together to calculate which is their best idea.   I want entrepreneurs to show me the money.   Where is the nearest money?   Which of your ideas […]

Entrepreneurs: A Business Worth Getting Up Early For?

Do you have a business or a business idea worth getting up early for? Today I began a new regime of rising at 6 a.m. to begin to take chunks out of a project I am passionate about.   In winter I like to lie abed until 8 a.m. and begin work at 9 but I realised that if I am serious about my goals and intentions for 2010, I would need to carve out some extra time to get ahead. Although I work very long hours and am terrifyingly self-disciplined, certain projects very close to my own heart are not […]

Meals With Millionaires (1)

Today I had breakfast with two proto millionaires who shall remain nameless.   Suffice to say they are restaurateurs who each have a fabulous name in the UK restaurant business for opening other people’s restaurants and getting them right, and or putting them right when things go wrong.   A bit like Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares, but without the nightmare and without Gordon. My chums, N & J, well I hadn’t met J before but N is already a mate, have a consultancy which sorts out restaurants which go wrong and help people with a concept but no process to open their […]
