Entrepreneurial Advice, Creative Inspiration, Simple Choices

I’ve been the beneficiary of several pieces of precious entrepreneurial advice and creative inspiration over the last few days. I have a feeling there must be something in the air. It started with an exchange with another Creator profile such as myself. We sparked off one another. This led to my having ideas and my companion having ideas and us exchanging notes later which showed we’d both moved on as the result of just one sparky conversation. Next I was reminded of the value of getting away from all things familiar during a little break in my normal routine. I […]

The Importance of Taking Proper Breaks When You Are Self-Employed

I took the weekend off. Completely. 100%. No work on either day. It felt good. We enjoyed a weekend of warm sunshine in London and it put me in a holiday mood. No-one had booked themselves into my online coaching diary for Saturday, which is very rare, and apart from my commitment to blog daily there was nothing I had to do – total freedom. Entrepreneurs: What Hours Will You Choose To Work?

Without doubt the beauty of self-employment is the sense of freedom and choice it brings and that includes choosing what hours you will work in your business. I’m a bit old-fashioned when it comes to this. I sit down at 9 a.m. approx and get up when I’ve finished for the day, whether that be 3 p.m. or 10 p.m., when I’ve met all my commitments and achieved what I set myself for today and when my inbox is empty. When I’ve done enough. I don’t go for perfection, just good enough. But you don’t need to do it like […]

Good News Masquerading As A Problem

Yesterday I was chatting to one of my favourite clients and we were experiencing the same sort of thoughts about our working lives. My client somewhat sheepishly revealed didn’t have any problems she wanted to discuss with me in her call and this was a first. She couldn’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t driven by sorting out her problems and what was she to do with all this spare energy and time? What a wonderful “problem” to have! We were able to agree on that and have a little self-conscious laugh at ourselves and then we […]

Freedom for Entrepreneurs: Why are you Self-Employed?

I sent out a little tweet on Twitter recently asking my Entrepreneur chums for the top three reasons why they chose to work for themselves.   I’ve evaluated their answers, of course I have, I’m an accountant still in some tiny part of my soul and I love a good statistic. Flexibility is a recurring theme, but the main thing all the answers share is a strong desire for freedom; in fact, I would call it a must-have.   Its the thing which has driven folks out of a job and into a life. Freedom to do what, I wondered?   And they […]
