More Like You

I have been examining the amount of work I put into marketing. Specifically the amount of time, because (honestly) it doesn’t really feel like work to me, not the vast majority of it anyway. I write a weekly newsletter and I make time to share it on social media. I co-create a weekly podcast and that I prepare for in advance, then we record it together, then I go off and write up the show notes in three different formats, on the podcast website, on my own website and now in a Facebook Note. And as each show goes live […]

Other People’s Marketing

When I share on Facebook a lovely meme that someone else has created, it sometimes comes with a link to their URL, and sometimes it even comes with a marketing message about something they are promoting. What I generally intend by sharing is for you to enjoy the picture and the words on the meme itself. But a couple of incidences recently have caused me to realise that perhaps people think I am recommending or endorsing the creator behind the meme, or the thing they are promoting with said meme. I am not. If I were, I would say so […]

Launching The MORE Mastermind with Victoria Casebourne

I’ve been talking for sometime about a couple of joint ventures I’ve been co-crafting, and finally I am able to go live and announce that I am happy to be working in a project called The MORE Mastermind with its creator, Victoria Casebourne. Victoria and I met via a Facebook group. She’s a mum with two small children and she was already pretty much sold on the idea of working school hours in term time only. And I’ve been saying for sometime that I wanted to work fewer hours too, why should it be only mums who get that? She […]

Marketing from the Heart

I was suspicious of marketing at first, with good reason as it turns out, and yet over the last fifteen years or so I have grown to love it. But recently I notice I have grown tired of being marketed to and I’ve excavated my soul to see why this is. The concept of authentic marketing isn’t new; I imagine it was born of the same fatigue I have been feeling. It isn’t that I don’t want to buy, just that I want to buy stuff of my own choosing rather than being led to believe I might miss out if I […]

A Good Marketing Week

A good marketing week is one where you get to see the results on your marketing efforts. The vast majority of my marketing is done online. I don’t leave home for two reasons: I don’t like networking and I want my business to be global and the best way to reach out to the world is via the internet. I’ve been found by three different people for two different reasons this week, and they were all online. Two people who could only have found me via my website and blog and social media are a publisher and a journalist. The […]

The Right Offer at the Right Time

Last Friday was Black Friday and I’d spent quite a lot of time in the run up to it joining the campaign to persuade people not to buy any more stuff. I am an advocate of minimalism and we don’t need any more clutter or expense and debt and anyway it’s a bandwagon and I avoid all of those like the plague, generally speaking. Then I surprised myself. And did a volte face. Coincidentally I’d been on a website earlier in the day contemplating a purchase, discovering that it was a bit rich for my blood at £99. And then […]

Thoughts About Selling

I love selling. My clients mostly do not. Here are some thoughts about selling which might help. The only thing we cannot control is when. When a client will buy. They will buy when they are good and ready. And their reasons for making that decision are not only about money. They are about how much desire you have created for the thing you are selling, product or service, and if they have enough room in their lives to focus on using well and enjoying their purchase from you. Yes, I know you CAN get them to buy within a […]

How To Be An Overnight Business Success

When I was interviewing a business colleague who designs and makes websites, he reminded me of something I know very well but it was good to hear it come out of the mouth of another small business owner. He said that now he had been in business for six years he gets plenty of word-of-mouth referrals, enough to make a truly significant contribution to his business. He may even have said “of course”. Certainly that was his implication – that it was natural and normal and a fact of his business life now. And all he has to do to […]

Opportunity: 31 Days of Abundance, Day Six

As I look at my diary for the upcoming week I notice there’s an abundance of new opportunities. Someone is coming to spend the afternoon with me on Tuesday. Although our paths have crossed once or twice, I don’t really know this woman at all or her me. So we are spending an afternoon hanging out on a voyage of mutual exploration in my lovely garden. Hmm, I see rain is forecast. Never mind, that won’t dampen our enthusiasm for each other or for the new and, being the optimist that I am, I shall expect the weather to miraculously […]
