Scarcity and Self-Employment

You could say that one aspect of choosing self-employment instead of a job is that you enter the world of financial scarcity and insecurity. You run out of money. There’s no reassuring regular incoming salary at the end of each month with which to pay your bills. Another way of looking at it is that you take on that responsibility in employing yourself, to pay yourself instead of expecting someone else to do that. In all my time of working for myself I’ve been on the financial edge more times than I care to remember, and I’ve also been in […]

Changing My Beliefs

One of the things I’ve always historically believed in all my life is hard work. It pretty much always worked for me in the past, certainly in the first half of my career. But if I’m honest, it doesn’t really cut the mustard anymore. I’ve found better, easier ways. So I’m choosing a better belief. Everything I want comes to me easily and effortlessly, and I am available to serve. And then I follow my inner guidance and see where that leads. Until yesterday I used to believe that coaching was a luxury. But together with a client or two […]

There’s No Need To Be Afraid

With thanks to all those who have shown appreciation for today’s newsletter, I am reproducing it here because it is resonating with so many. Thanks for all your kind feedback. Paul McKenna taught me during my NLP training that we are born with only two fears, the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. What this means is that every other fear you have, you have made up or adopted during your lifetime. You have decided to be fearful of everything you are frightened of and, if you want, you can unlearn those fears or abandon them. There’s no […]

Abundance is a Choice

The results of the research I’ve carried out in the company of some other travellers in the jungles of time and space this summer at AbundanceFest are in. As with so many other things in life, abundance is a choice. Even when you think you have no choice over something which may be going on in your life or work, you still have the opportunity to choose how you will think about it – with abundance or scarcity, love or fear. Wednesday night saw our final group call, a round-up of all we had learned. We were a tad philosophical; […]

Scarcity

A lot of the 30DC questions I am being asked are about scarcity. I am worried that people will run off with my ideas Should I trademark my company name? Should I copyright my content? If I blog about what I am planning to create in my business, won’t people simply rip it off? There’s so much competition in this field already, is there room for me? The blogosphere is so full of content already, I don’t think I have anything new to contribute. Honestly, I could share a lot more. This sort of thing is a recurring theme. No […]

They Call Me Lady Luck

I’m getting really good at winning the lottery. This is really extraordinary for me. And not normal at all. When it was first invented I was convinced I was going to win and win big and I did get the first four numbers in the order they were read out on the first New Year’s Eve. When the lottery machines were working again after the weekend and the Bank Holiday and I could find out the quantum of my win, I must confess to my disappointment with a somewhat paltry sum for a 4-number match. Then I decided that the lottery was […]

What My Client And I Both Learned From Her Giving Me The Sack

I got the sack yesterday. One of my clients decided I wasn’t the right coach for her. Although we had started off together really well, and in only half of the time we had proposed spending together we were well on target to meet her financial goals, the chemistry wasn’t right. In my soul I knew that too and so I was grateful when my client voiced it. I was also surprised in that I wasn’t expecting it, well not yesterday anyway. Why was getting the sack good for both of us then? Well, I felt an immediate sense of […]

Enough: Three Very Helpful Thoughts About Money

I came across Lynne Twist talking about The Great Lie of Scarcity and what she calls the Three Toxic Myths: 1.   There is not enough/I am not enough (there is and I am) 2.   More is better (it’s not, necessarily) 3.   And that’s just the way it is (it doesn’t have to be, that’s our choice) Lynne’s film is eleven minutes long and I make time to watch it any time I am feeling a bit scarce about money or in need of a shot of calming inspiration. I love her conclusion that there’s enough of everything everywhere for everyone to […]

The Better Business Brigade – Abundant Business Mentoring

This is the story of a million Entrepreneurs. Of EveryEntrepreneur. They could be you. They are you and you are them. I use the word Entrepreneur to describe everyone who works for themselves, even though this isn’t the definition. It’s my word of choice to describe everyone, anyone who gets up every day and makes their own opportunities. One of my favourite Entrepreneurs is Eddie Grundy in The Archers.   Almost everything Eddie touches turns to base metal but he never – or almost never – loses heart.   Being a wide boy, a spiv, is who Eddie is.   It’s hard-wired into […]
