Certainty and Wisdom

Thank you to all those who wrote in after last week’s newsletter. You make my day when you do that. It is the way to this writer’s heart. Thanks to Katherine who sent me this photo. You can find more of her cross stitch patterns featuring quirky quotes and beautiful word clouds at her Etsy shop KeenStitch. Liz and I had an exchange of emails as we are wont to do, always a meeting of minds. And words. And Sarah, who is a client who gives me the BEST testimonials, sent in another one. Let me be clear… it isn’t […]

An Exploration of Wisdom

Yesterday a client called me wise. It wasn’t the first time that’s happened. And at some point last night I began to ask myself about being wise and the acquisition of wisdom. How do you get to be wise? Longevity Hang around the planet long enough and it just creeps up on you. Yeah, kinda. I don’t think the two necessarily go in hand but obviously the longer you’ve been around and in amongst it all, the greater the opportunity for life to offer up its wisdom to you. What you do with it is up to you. I’ve seen […]

What’s Really Important?

What’s really important? Only you can say. It’s unique to you. And to me. Following on from yesterday’s post, I am bringing myself back up to speed slowly in this, my new “term”. And allowing myself and my clients plenty of time to think about what’s really important. Today it is one of those beautiful sunny clear September days which makes even me, the most loath of all to take exercise, want to get out in the garden or go for a walk. The garden looks lovely and there’s talk amongst my clients of what’s really important to them – […]

Knowledge: 31 Days of Abundance, Day Eleven

I know a lot of stuff. And some of it is even useful. I cannot imagine how you could possibly get to my age (59) without accumulating a lot of facts, figures, stories and life experiences which can sometimes end up as wisdom but definitely ends up as a whole lot of knowledge. I don’t always remember everything I know and I always say I don’t know what I know until a client asks. And that’s true. You couldn’t write down everything you know, could you? Impossible task. I like learning new things. This was not true when I was […]

The Received Wisdom or Your Own?

I am working with a lot of wannabe entrepreneurs right now in the 30DC or wannabe-more-profitable entrepreneurs and start-ups and I am answering scores of questions a day. Last night it was our weekly webinar when they get to call in and listen to my voice as I answer their questions. In both these scenarios I often find myself giving them two answers to their questions, the “received wisdom” answer and the “way I do it” answer. In my businesses I borrow from the former to create and then follow my own wisdom. Let me explain. They ask me questions […]

A Problem Halved: Who Can I Talk To About This?

I’m not much of a one for life coaching and people hardly ever ask me to go there. Yes, I am officially a self-appointed Wise Old Bird and my business mentoring and wealth coaching clients do have lives too, of course. And you’d be amazed how much their lives spill over into the work we do together and vice versa. But pure life coaching issues? Non merci. I’m more of an observer of those sorts of things, rather than a participant in them per se, and consequently I feel I may be out of integrity when it comes to supporting […]

The More I Find Out The Less I Know: A Story About Four Quid

As I get older, two ever-increasing certainties creep up on me: 1.   The more I know the less I understand 2.   The longer I live the easier it is to make sense of my world, as I join up the dots Funny that, as they’re contradictory, aren’t they? I think the first one refers to the certainty I enjoyed as a younger woman. I see it in the next generation now. It must go with the territory called Youth.   My certainty has been knocked out of me. Not in my professional life where certain things will always […]
