Together with my former business partner from The Money Gym, Nicola Cairncross, we’ve created a regular weekly podcast which is called Own It! Your Business and Your Life. If you enjoy audio, give us a listen. New episodes are published every Friday. You might also join our Facebook Group where we debate matters arising from each episode, and/or Like our Facebook Page where we publish each episode as it goes live each week. You can also subscribe at iTunes.
In episode 66 we talk about change and innovation online, with particular regard to an article by Chris Guillebeau entitled The New, New Economy: How the World of Online Publishing is Changing, and Why You Should Care. Nicola is in San Diego for the Traffic and Conversion Summit having driven to California from Florida in a convoy of Mustangs covering 600 miles a day, the distance from where she lives on the south coast of England to Scotland. So she’s well placed to debate the issues Chris raises namely that the thought leader space is over-saturated, digital products have greatly evolved, the rules of social media have changed and that, on it’s own, blogging is no longer valuable or interesting. Controversial stuff! Nicola both agrees and disagrees and lets us in on what she thinks we all missed during the last couple of years, namely that you have to pay to amplify your content to get it seen, but then she would say that, she’s a Facebook Ads expert!
In other news Nicola tells listeners about the highlights of her trip, about how WiFi in her car is going to be her next must-have, how she’s enjoyed an MBA from her fellow Mustang drivers who’ve taught her about mindset, music and management accounts; it’s probably truer to say she’s taught them about music as that’s her thang. She’s closed a deal on the road, and narrowed her focus – hurrah! And she’s impressed herself with her own bravery and strength on the trip, imposing her own boundaries firmly and learning how to use a Glock handgun.
I talk about my vibrant February, green smoothies and juicing again, AudioBoom and my new daily ritual of sharing 3 minutes of audio, a thought for the day if you like. And I do like audio, yes. I explain to her that while she’s been gone I’ve launched Big Talk and am in negotiations with two fabulous people to help them in their businesses in the way that she and I partnered up between 2005 and 2010.
Our words of the week are Expansion and Audio and I’m impressed by artist client Richard Pettitt and his multi-media blogging involving delightful use of the written word plus illustration, photographs and video all within the same post.
The weekly podcast is called Own It! Your Business and Your Life and it’s aimed at entrepreneurs and those creative types in business for themselves. Catch up with all the old episodes at OwnItThePodcast.com.
