Q4: Why Am I Plagued by Apparently Insurmountable Obstacles?

This is Question 4 from my book Your Biz Your Way: Why Am I Plagued by Apparently Insurmountable Obstacles? “There appears to be a part of my personality that, having noticed a good plan and way forwards is evolving, slowly unravels the idea by placing apparently insurmountable technical, practical and/or financial obstacles in my line of sight until I lose interest in it.” Yep, I hear ya. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. It is a form of self-sabotage I believe. Those come in all shapes and sizes, don’t they, the little blighters? I vaguely remember that I won a consultation […]

Q3: Why Am I Always Compelled to Start a New Notebook?

This is Question 3 from my book Your Biz Your Way: Q3 Why am I always compelled to start a new notebook? “The ‘I’ll start a new notebook for that idea’ syndrome means I always have many, many, notebooks on the go at any one time, plus bookmarks in Pocket and in different browsers, helpful ideas and notes on my phone, books laid open where I was taking notes… the resulting visual chaos means that from time to time I simply tidy everything away and start again.” What happens when you tidy everything away? Do you lose your notes and […]

Q2: Why Do I Feel I Must Do It All Myself?

This is Question 2 from my book Your Biz Your Way: Q2 Why do I feel I must do it all myself? Why can’t I accept help from my husband? A lot of my female (and male) clients share this particular brand of bonkersness and, in some households, you can’t accept help from your other half because it simply isn’t available or they are unable or unsympathetic, or both. Equally, many of us feel the pull to be independent, even within a marriage or a partnership. We want to earn money and pay our way. And how interesting this question comes […]

Q1: Have I Left It Too Late?

This is Question 1 from my book Your Biz Your Way: Q1 Have I left it too late? I checked with you before I answered this one. I wanted to know how old you are. And you told me that you are “45 – just starting a second career as an entrepreneur after 20 years in communications and marketing. Got to the top of the ladder and didn’t like the view!” 45. Dear God, you are a CHILD! OK, we can do this scientifically, or we can do it based on our beliefs. Or both. You are going to outlive […]

Book Report

It’s a month since I published my first “proper” book, called Your Biz Your Way. Here’s my first book report… er, my first report about the book I mean! Words, eh? I monitor CreateSpace (where you publish print versions on Amazon) pretty often because what you measure increases and sales there in month one total 36. Similarly, I monitor (and regularly ask for) reviews on both Amazon UK (13) and US (2), total 15. Digital versions sold via my own online shop at Selz total 29. So grand total book sales in Month 1 = 29+36 in month one, and […]

Self-Publishing My Book with Amazon: Podcast Ep 161

Today’s show is all about my experiences as a first-time author, specifically selling the digital version easily and profitably from my own website and my shop at Selz versus the trials and tribulations of market-dominating Amazon for those who want a print version. So why did I have to concede and go with Amazon in the end? The short answer is reach and ease for those readers who live anywhere in the world and are not especially tech-savvy though blissfully those have been a very small percentage thus far. LISTEN HERE TO OWN IT! The Podcast #161: Self-Publishing Your Book […]
