My Favourite Song About Money. What’s Yours?

I’ve just passed a peaceful half hour cruising round YouTube looking at lots of songs about money. This has been done a million times before, but I thought it would be fabulous for a while to dwell in money songs and try and work out what’s my favourite. It’s an impossible task. Do you pick it for the lyrics, or the feelgood? I’ve tried to come up with the best combo I could.

Songs I have looked at and rejected for my top spot – in no particular order – include Price Tag by Jessie J, Rich Girl by Hall & Oates, If I Were A Rich Man from Fiddler On The Roof sung by Topol, Gold Digger by Kanye West, For The Love Of Money by the O’Jays, Money by the Flying Lizards (or The Beatles), Money from Cabaret sung by Liza Minnelli, Money Changes Everything by Cyndi Lauper, Taxman by The Beatles, Independent Woman by Destiny’s Child and I Need A Dollar by Aloe Blacc.  All bubblin’ under, Pop Pickers.

I’ve left out lots, I know. But they are not my favourites, not even close. Money For Nothing, Dire Straights anyone?   Hmm… not for me, thanks. Or Simply Red? Nah.

But I’ve made my decision. And my current favourite is Billionaire by Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars.

By a million miles.

For now.

  1. My immediate response is Pink Floyd’s Money, not on your list. My all time favourite. Just relistened on You Tube and still love it after all these years…
