I can teach you how to run your own small business. I’ve worked with over 1,000 SME’s over the last 40 years and I’ve seen myriad ideas and business models. I know what works, and what doesn’t. I know whether your idea is a good one or not. I know how to make it work if it’s a goer (and it probably is), I know what systems you need and want and which you don’t. I know when you should be hiring an accountant, registering for VAT, becoming a limited company, hiring a solicitor and so on. I can teach you the nuts and bolts, but I can’t do it for you.
I can help you believe in yourself, and share resources with you which enable you to park perfectionism and get over procrastination. I believe in you, but I can’t do it for you.
I can make myself available to you by appointment for a Skype call, by email during office hours and often beyond (shh!), and on Facebook chat for a quick exchange of Q & A. Pick my brains whenever and however you like, but I can’t do it for you.
I believe in you before you believe in yourself and as you come to realise you can do this thing. You CAN work for yourself and make it pay, you can leave your day job and build a property portfolio or any gorgeous little boutique business, your cafe, your music, your illustrations, your coaching, your consultancy. But I can’t do it for you.
I can support your creativity as a writer and an artist and explore ways in which you can monetise your talent, but I can’t write the words or draw the pictures for you. Only you can do that.
I can share tips and techniques with you which make it easier and faster to do what’s taken me my whole career to learn and master. I am the fount of all knowledge, the Small Business Oracle, and if you want access to everything I know all you have to do is ask and it’s yours. But I can’t do your work for you.
I can connect you to useful resources and fabulous people to speed you on your way, but they can’t do it for you either, however much you outsource.
I can point you at everything you need to know and walk through a lot of it with you, but you have to do your bit yourself. You have to want it. You have to be hungry or driven or not in the least bit comfy with where you are; just one of those, not necessarily all three.
I can help and support and inspire and enable, coach and mentor you to make your business all you desire, but I can’t do it for you. Happily I’m a rock solid believer in your capacity to do it and in your infinite potential.
Whether you are a member of either of my coaching groups or a private client, I can offer accountability where you tell me what you are going to do and then come back and tell me when you’ve done it and we celebrate. Or tell me why you haven’t and we explore ways to bust what’s standing in your way. But I can’t do it for you. I can’t make you want it enough.
Together we can work out what you are going to do, why you want to do it, how you are going to do it, but only you can do it. And if you are not taking the next steps and getting it done, either you don’t want it enough or the steps are too big.
I wish I could do your work for you but that’s the one thing I can’t do. You have to do that bit yourself. But here’s the good news, here’s the wonderful thing…
…YOU CAN DO IT! You can do your work. You can make your biz a personal triumph.
I can do (almost) anything for you, but I can’t do that.
Sorry, came over a bit Meatloaf there.
