Someone has written to me asking what I would do if I were starting again in business now. I honestly don’t know is the truth. The only regrets I have over the last forty years include that I chose something so sedentary and (these days) computer based as I am not sure that’s good for my health; actually, I’m certain it’s not. Nicola and I debate whether typical standing-up/moving around/ physical jobs are any better for the body and conclude they all involve physical and emotional stresses and strains. Nicola knows she would start an Amazon FBA business. FBA […]
Today’s show is all about my experiences as a first-time author, specifically selling the digital version easily and profitably from my own website and my shop at Selz versus the trials and tribulations of market-dominating Amazon for those who want a print version. So why did I have to concede and go with Amazon in the end? The short answer is reach and ease for those readers who live anywhere in the world and are not especially tech-savvy though blissfully those have been a very small percentage thus far. Since I have more books on my kindle than I could possibly read in a year off work, and since I am about to go travelling so don’t want any more possessions in my life, when I see things I think I want these days I add them to my Amazon Wish List. It feels like shopping. And when I revisit my list later, having managed very well without so many of the items, I can knock them off and feel no loss. I highly recommend this strategy as a sort-of halfway house if you are trying to beat your […]
I love both marketing and selling as it happens but my clients tell me they don’t like marketing and they hate selling. Feel this way too? Let me see if I can find a couple of ways to improve that a tad for you. Let’s do marketing first. It is simply your job to tell enough people in the world about you and what you offer, provide and sell until you hit such a critical mass that the metaphorical phone just rings all the time and often enough to keep you in the lifestyle to which you intend to become […]
Working at home these last couple of days, in the snow, I wondered if various delivery men would make it. The man from the laundry, Amazon C/o Citilink (notoriously unreliable) and Viking. To be really honest with you, it wouldn’t have mattered if none of them had made it through, nothing was a matter of life or death. But oddly, they all made it through. And on my doorstep I cheered them as heroes, including my postman. As I said on Twitter today, I am the first to slag off a postie when he’s on strike, and he’s a lazy blighter […]
Since I did the work with you I have been very busy with projects. I've brought out four training DVD's on Reflexology that are rising up the charts on Amazon, started writing distance learning courses, written another book "Reflexology for Babies and Children" and started to be invited to lecture abroad - so huge thanks for your comment of "view yourself as an expert"!
