More Like You

I have been examining the amount of work I put into marketing. Specifically the amount of time, because (honestly) it doesn’t really feel like work to me, not the vast majority of it anyway. I write a weekly newsletter and I make time to share it on social media. I co-create a weekly podcast and that I prepare for in advance, then we record it together, then I go off and write up the show notes in three different formats, on the podcast website, on my own website and now in a Facebook Note. And as each show goes live […]

Giving It All Away

October began well for me. I felt much more energetic and optimistic than I did during September. No idea why. Not examining it. Just taking advantage of it. I suspect the beautiful sunshine and clear blue skies had a lot to do with it, as I find that very mood-enhancing. And in that spirit, last weekend I thought to myself “Right, I’m going to step up the blogging again. Get back into the habit. I think I’ll aim for a blog post every day, Monday to Friday.” Happily I had already cleared one day, intending to be out of London on Tuesday, […]

A Good Marketing Week

A good marketing week is one where you get to see the results on your marketing efforts. The vast majority of my marketing is done online. I don’t leave home for two reasons: I don’t like networking and I want my business to be global and the best way to reach out to the world is via the internet. I’ve been found by three different people for two different reasons this week, and they were all online. Two people who could only have found me via my website and blog and social media are a publisher and a journalist. The […]

Falling Off (and Getting Back On)

Last year in 2014 I blogged daily for the whole year. 365 blog posts. I impressed even myself. This year I’ve mostly been falling off. Don’t we all? We all get good at something, achieve the results we want and stop doing it. What are we like? BLOGGING In anticipation of Sam’s Blog Week which is free to join and runs between 7th and 11th December 2015, I am starting to blog again today. December is a holiday month for me with fewer 1-2-1 clients and therefore more personal time so I thought I’d start blogging again, perhaps as often […]

Blogging Day 346 out of 365/2014

Today is Blogging Day 346 of 365 days’ straight blogging in 2014. It is 17.15 on Friday 12th December and for the first time this entire year, I have zero idea what to blog about. My mind is absolutely blank which isn’t something a Creator says all that often. I think recording the first three shows in my new podcast with Nicola drained it all out of me today. I need to go for a little lie down. So, what’s on my mind? It was interesting to note that when Nicola asked me in the podcast to think of and […]

Questions About Blogging

Questions about blogging have come thick and fast during the 30DC. Here’s a typical one: What techniques can I apply to get me to write blog posts for my new website which needs a bit of work doing to it? I wonder whether that is what makes me reluctant to do anything on it. Here are my thoughts: Do you like writing, for starters? If not, find another route to market – perhaps audio, maybe video, how about pictures? If you do like writing, then just do one. Then another. Then another. Enjoy yourself. [Tweet “Decide how many blog posts […]

Nothing Sells Itself

One of my 30DC clients tells me she has an Etsy shop but has never sold a thing on there. She doesn’t know what to do and is considering finding a PR agency for her creations, rather than looking for shops and galleries and asks what I think. Gorgeous, that’s what I think! Permission to ramble on about marketing… Nothing sells itself, not to begin with anyway. I only do two things. I coach my clients and, when I’m not doing that, I am marketing so that I may have clients to coach. And vice versa. Coach. Market. Market. Coach. […]

Top Tips for Newbie Bloggers

The 30DC newbie bloggers are asking me lots about blogging. Good! It’s one of my very favourite topics. Here are some of my top tips in answer to the first few of those questions, with plenty more where that came from. Disclaimer: These are my personal opinions after blogging for a very long time. Many experts* would disagree with me. My opinions come from my personal experience and I write as I find. How long should a blog post be? I like short myself. I’m a busy woman. I advise that you write little and often. 400-600 words is good […]

The Received Wisdom or Your Own?

I am working with a lot of wannabe entrepreneurs right now in the 30DC or wannabe-more-profitable entrepreneurs and start-ups and I am answering scores of questions a day. Last night it was our weekly webinar when they get to call in and listen to my voice as I answer their questions. In both these scenarios I often find myself giving them two answers to their questions, the “received wisdom” answer and the “way I do it” answer. In my businesses I borrow from the former to create and then follow my own wisdom. Let me explain. They ask me questions […]

Marketing: Why Bother Blogging at All?

Most of the people I know these days have a website. And most of them have a page on it called Blog. And almost all of them know they should be blogging. But are they? Not really, no. They pay various webby colleagues of mine to create beautiful websites for them which then lie fallow, dormant, unloved. There are quite a few challenges with regular blogging: What shall I write about? Who cares what I think? There’s so much noise on the internet already, do I want to be party of that? I’ve got nothing new to say. Dare I […]
