Criticism or Critique? Alice Sheridan: Podcast Ep 193

Today we are back podcasting after taking the month of August off. And our listener/guest is London-based landscape artist Alice Sheridan who teaches us about the distinction between criticism and critique. Alice says that art is judged within 2.7 seconds – wow! She explains how feedback is useful for any creative person, how to frame the question when you ask for it and how it helps you to make up your own mind about your work which often we can be too close to. Grand Designs for Your Small Business

When it comes to Channel 4′s Grand Designs I am uncharacteristically behind the beat. I have watched only a handful of episodes (and been inspired by them all) and I confess I have also had cause to write to friends who I know are fans and complain about Kevin, bless him. There are about 150 episodes of Grand Designs which have been filmed over the last decade. My limited exposure means I have probably watched about five to ten percent of that output and boy is it addictive! And whilst Kevin may be easy on the eye, at least at […]

Want to be Self-Employed but No Idea Where to Start?

Sometimes I make the mistake of thinking I’ve heard everything. No sooner do I do that than people turn up to surprise me. This week I met a very sensible Creator. Who even knew they existed when we thought they were all head in the clouds? Turned out she did have books full of ideas somewhere, ideas on the back-burner, she had just parked them for a while. Unblocking Creators And Creatives: My Fabulous Tuesday

I had rather a good day on Tuesday where I got to help three ideal clients on Skype, which is my preferred way. And here’s another splendid testimonial which flooded in after the call: “Thanks so much for your help yesterday – went away feeling much more excited and did loads of writing. I bounced away from our call and spent the next several hours excitedly finishing a chapter of my book.” Now, that may not seem all that much to you but here’s what it says to me. Firstly, it’s from a bloke who is apt to remind me at […]

Wealth Dynamics And The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Run, don’t walk, to see the film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and let its various pleasures wash over you. I may have to go again on the pleasure front as I was so engaged in watching the different types of Wealth Dynamics profiles on display amongst the characters. Sonny, played by gorgeous doe-eyed Dev Patel, is a Creator, your classic Entrepreneur. “Don’t trouble me with the details” is his favourite saying. Mine too.  He has a vision. Me too. He’s inherited the hotel and wants to restore it its former glory. He has no idea how he’s going to do […]

An Entrepreneur’s Alphabet: F is for Focus

So my advice is to pick your best idea and focus on it to the exclusion of all else until you have launched it and are drawing a regular income stream from it. Only then should you go on to begin to focus on your next idea. In The Money Gym, we call this Serial Focus!
