Testimonial: Gold-Dusted Goodies

I often dream about my clients, about them personally and about thoughts and ideas and solutions for them. A few weeks ago a client let me know she’d had a dream about me and sent me this testimonial with permission to share in one of my newsletters. What a gift from her to me is this? “I had a dream last week which you were in. At the end of the dream you gave me a present, a little see-through plastic box containing 12 dark chocolate truffles. Each had gold dust sprinkled on the top. When I remembered the dream […]

Podcast Ep 111: Envisioning 2017

In the New Year episode of Own It! the podcast, Nicola and I talk about our hopes and dreams, goals, plans and intentions for 2017. She talks about her new signature program, coming soon, and her app, her own books she wants to publish and her travel plans. I talk about writing and speaking on bigger platforms than just my own, so finding gigs as both a columnist and a radio show phone-in host for small business owners. I do both of these things already on my own blog and Small Business Big Magic but it is still my dream, […]

Goals and Intentions

Goals and Intentions. Both are important, and fulfil a different function in creating your business/life to love. Goals. Write them down, make them happen. Every book you read about successful people contains the part where they work out what they want, even if it’s only on the back of an envelope or fag packet which they then frequently recommend you shove in a drawer and forget about. When you are moving house, you find it again and notice how most – if not all of it – has magically come true. How does that work then? Those of us who […]

Dreaming, Writing, Thinking, Talking, Listening

With thanks to @WhatKeepsMeSane on Twitter, I read this little inspirational quote from Joan Didion which got me thinking creatively: “Was it only by dreaming or writing that I could find out what I thought?” Hmm. Well, yes, those are two ways. In fact I just woke from a dream with a brilliant idea for one of my businesses and I find this does tend to happen. The key is to take action in that very moment, which isn’t always practical. If you’ve woken to the alarm clock, for instance, at 7 a.m. and you’ve got to Get This Show […]

Walter Mitty Reminds Me To Keep An Open Mind

Nothing I saw in the trailers or the publicity junket made me want to see the Ben Stiller film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. But I had a sense I should go. I’m a coach. I’m in the dreams business and it’s a film about living your dreams. Word on the street kept whispering to me “go to see Walter Mitty”.  I didn’t want to, but the intuition wouldn’t go away. So I went yesterday afternoon, sort of like a works outing. BOY, am I glad I did! Not for the first time in my life I have gone […]

More About Playing Cashflow 101

Doing the tidying up after Friday’s Cashflow 101 game in The Abundance Shed, packing away the money and rats and cheeses, pondering players’ dreams and their different learning styles, I find myself wondering about my facilitation style. I think I am pretty gifted at it, sorry to be so immodest, but I think you know when you are been doing something for a very long time whether or not you are any good at that. To what do I attribute that? You cannot play the game as well as teach and be the banker, there is just too much going […]

The Dreamers of Dreams

I’ve always loved the expression ‘movers and shakers’ without ever knowing where it came from until today. I like the action of movers and the mild rebellion, as I see it, of shakers. I’ve heard this expression a couple of times recently on the BBC2 trail for their treasure house of delights in this season’s creative output. And loving words as I do this led me on a delightful journey, because the voiceover makes movers and shakers sound like part of one poem but I then discovered it is not one poem but excerpts from six poems by Keats, O’Shaughnessy, […]

TFTD21: “All My Life I’ve Dreamed…”

“All my life I’ve dreamed of performing in front of big audiences and tonight I get the opportunity to do that.”  James Arthur, Winner, X Factor 2012 What’s the moral of this story? All my life I’ve dreamed… 1. Enter the fray, enter the arena, enter the competition, step up, do something brave (even if nobody notices except you) and 2. Never ever ever give up on your dreams

“What a beautiful blast of fresh, ground grass smelling sunny sky dreaming air you are! It Isn’t The End Of The Story Yet

My life is a story. Most episodes in my life have endings, happy or sad or in between, and some run on as a thread throughout all the chapters of my life. It’s a bit messy, frankly, and not as neat or linear as I’d like. And some of my micro-stories are still in play, others have ended long since and I know the end of those particular ones. They’re done and dusted, I’ve put them to bed and either celebrated the successful outcomes or assimilated the learnings. My clients are exactly the same. I sometimes catch myself saying “It […]
