Consultant and Coach/Writer/Entrepreneur Wants to Make a Difference

I love the work I do and have no plans to do anything else. I coach and I write and I look after my own business interests. But it occurs to me I have time to do something else as well. Not all the time but maybe as much as a couple of days -or half days – a week if I am really efficient. I would like the opportunity to do something which draws on my forty years of work in accounting/finance, entrepreneur coaching/mentoring and writing, and which makes a difference to the world in which we live. I […]

Club 100: Every Entrepreneur Is Unique

If you compare yourself to another business owner, you are likely to find yourself wanting. Don’t do it. We are each of us unique. We have surprising strengths and different weakness and our operating systems and internal ‘ometers’, hopes and dreams are all blissfully our own. My Club 100 coaching group is coming up to its first birthday. Currently we have nineteen members though we have gained a lost a few on the way. I’ve done a quick mental audit of them all today and here’s a list of some of things I notice they have mastered and achieved, separately […]

Successful Entrepreneurship: Cashflow & Marketing

Almost every email I receive from business folks asking for help is about either (a) managing cashflow or (b) marketing. They are the twin evils – and ultimately the twin joys – of making your business work. The issue of cashflow is about doing enough business at the right price and collecting the money for it speedily and efficiently.   If you are not bringing in enough money it’s safe to say you are not yet happy with asking for the business and asking for it at the right price. I was an accountant for twenty years and we used […]

Introvert, Moi? How I Accidentally Discovered My Inner Entrepreneur

One definition for the expression “navel-gazing” is “excessive introspection, self-absorption or concentration on a single issue”. What follows may qualify on all three counts although who is to say what amount of introspection is excessive? One of the unexpected upsides of discovering my Wealth Profile was realising that I am 50% introvert where earlier in my life I had inhabited a 100% extrovert space; I had been just half of me. I have spent the last 2.5 years going inward much to the surprise, chagrin and frustration of a lot of friends and colleagues, extroverts all. I am grateful to […]

How To Be A Mum And An Entrepreneur At Half Term – Don’t!

All but one of my clients right now are women, and the majority of all my clients are parents. At half-term, how do you juggle being a Mum with being an Entrepreneur? Don’t! That’s my advice. Don’t split your focus. Organise your time across the business year so as to work extra efficiently during term time and be with your children when they are off school at half terms and holidays. That’s easy for me to say, isn’t it? I don’t have kids, but here’s what I have observed over decades of working with parents who are self-employed. You feel guilty […]

Hands Off My Favourite Word: Entrepreneur

One of my very favourite words in the world, perhaps my No 1 all-time favourite, is ENTREPRENEUR. I love it so much I adopted it at AdoptAWord.com which helps children with communication difficulties. Their website allows you to buy merchandise with your word on it so I can see on my keyring every day that I am an ENTREPRENEUR, lest I forget, which is very, very unlikely but just in case. But, here’s the bad news. Increasingly people are bastardising my favourite word. The first culprit was Mumpreneur (yuk!), which has now been officially recognised and added to the dictionary. God. Help. […]

What Do I Want? What Do I Really, Really Want?

One thing you discover when you are bereaved is that – unbelievably – the sun goes on rising and setting. And so it is in The Fertile Void.   Sunrise. Sunset. Sunrise. Sunset.  Day after day.   I start to get back into TV courtesy of BBC iplayer. Not a good thing.   Its all very relaxing and enjoyable but it sucks all the creativity out of me and actually I often end up resentful.   And I even got sucked into stuff I love too – 24, Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, Glee, QI, Jonathan Ross, Over the Rainbow and BGT.   Thank Goodness […]

Fancy A “Bet” On My New Business?

I’m just launching a new business called TheMillionEntrepreneurs.com. You might have heard about it already. We intend to do three things and have recently added a fourth string to our aspirational bow: 1.   We aim to provide support and acceleration for a global tribe of 1,000,000 entrepreneurs through hooking them up with established experts across 12 business disciplines and six personal ones.   We have had a bit of a coup in that the very special Michael Neill has recently agreed to be one of our experts. 2.   We limit our membership to 1,000,000 paying members at $10 a month and up […]

The Better Business Brigade – Abundant Business Mentoring

This is the story of a million Entrepreneurs. Of EveryEntrepreneur. They could be you. They are you and you are them. I use the word Entrepreneur to describe everyone who works for themselves, even though this isn’t the definition. It’s my word of choice to describe everyone, anyone who gets up every day and makes their own opportunities. One of my favourite Entrepreneurs is Eddie Grundy in The Archers.   Almost everything Eddie touches turns to base metal but he never – or almost never – loses heart.   Being a wide boy, a spiv, is who Eddie is.   It’s hard-wired into […]
