Money Is Not The Root Of All Evil

A really nice woman wrote to me yesterday saying that my website had been a lucky find for her when she was searching for inspiration. Always nice to hear, but my correspondent went on to assert that money is the root of all evil. Let’s knock this one on the head today, once and for all, shall we? Money is not the root of all evil. “The love of money is the root of all evil” or so it says in the bible in Timothy chapter 10 verse 6. Even then I am not absolutely sure what the bible’s message is […]

Money, Money, Money And Good Financial Support

It’s all about the money… or is it?   Why did you set up in business for yourself?   In my own case it was because I was unemployable.   I thought I was smarter than everyone I had ever worked for, I was bored in most of the jobs I’d done and I thought I was worth a lot more than I could earn in employment.  But this was the Seventies and times were different obviously. At the age of 22 when I first became self-employed as an accountant, I was terrified but exhilarated at the same time. I was very ambitious […]

What Is An Entrepreneur And Why Do I Love Them?

Do you consider yourself to be an entrepreneur? One of the ways clients illustrate to me that they are an entrepreneur is when they start talking about all the ideas they have.   They’ve got so many good ideas for a business, but they have no idea how to begin to make any money. Oh dear. My job is then to persuade them to pick the best one and run with that.   And we work together to calculate which is their best idea.   I want entrepreneurs to show me the money.   Where is the nearest money?   Which of your ideas […]

Perpetual Debt: Debts Which Are Impossible To Repay

I am a regular user of Mary Hunt’s Rapid Debt Repayment Calculators on her website for my own finances and for those of my clients. Last night I was working with the RDRC and I saw something for the first time in all my many years of using Mary’s calculators for their intended purpose, finding the fastest and/or cheapest way to repay unsecured debt . When I put in some figures, the website flashed up a warning in red. According to our calculations, this debt can never be repaid. At first I thought it was an error, but I checked […]

Five Things About Love – And Your Small Business Success

I’m reviewing all my old online content going back to 2005 which one of my technical team kindly imported from previous websites, newsletters and blogs.  Fashions, energies and writing styles change and very little still makes sense in today’s world so I am trashing a lot of it but and winkling out and re-publishing what still resonates for me. I hope it finds a match with you. I found this story of a talk I did with a group of newbie therapists way back in perhaps 2007, maybe even earlier. I wrote that when I thought through in advance what I […]

Avalanches Of Abundance: The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr Joseph Murphy

I am grateful to Peggy McColl who shared this excerpt taken from The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy in her ezine this week: Money is a symbol Money is a symbol of exchange. It means to you not only freedom from want, but beauty, luxury, abundance, and refinement. It is merely a symbol of the economic health of the nation. When your blood is circulating freely in your body, you are healthy. When money is circulating freely in your life, you are economically healthy. When people begin to hoard money, to put it away in tin […]

Abundant August: How Did You Do It?

Life isn’t ALL about money, but it doesn’t half help. And those of us in and around the world of coaching, with vision boards and goals and those of us in business with targets know only too well how important it is to nail the things you aim for. Apart from anything else, it re-wires us for success. It sets a new financial blueprint. It’s payback for a lot of hard work. And it proves we can do it so then we know we can repeat it if we want to, as often as we like. It’s our formula for success. When clients call […]

Questions About Money, Savings, Investments & Debt

How do I stop impulse spending? Set yourself a budget. Do various tricks like giving your credit cards to a trusted friend to take care of for you. Once a member of my accounting staff gave me hers and I remember hiding them in a jigsaw puzzle box where they remained happily and unused for more than a year. I’ve heard tales of people freezing their credit cards which means  you have to defrost them before you can use them. That can slow down  your spending! Another way is to write down what you want to buy in a little […]

What’s The Best Way To Do A Simple Budget?

Get your hands on a copy of your bank statements for say the last three to six months. Analyse what you spent your money on starting with standing orders, direct debits and other types of spending from cash, to retail therapy to fun. Put this information into columns on a spreadsheet or just on an ordinary piece of paper if you prefer not to use Excel. Check your overheads first of all, especially those which are compulsory. There’s no way round paying for your rent/mortgage, electricity, gas, water, council tax, service charges (if you live in a flat) and the […]

Money-Making Magic, Abundance, Good Fortune & Business Alchemy

What I wanted to write about today is free – its my Money-Making Magic Google Group – and a phenomenon which is going on there right now as my pal Bianca pointed out to me earlier today. Quite a number of us are participating in Rachel Elnaugh’s Business Alchemy and sharing our experiences in the group. This is wonderful in many different ways. I know it’s strengthening my own experience of participating in Rachel’s programme but it means the group is focusing on abundance instead of lack and that abundance seems to be rubbing off on all of us. The […]
