Sometimes this is OK, it works well and it feels busy and exciting. Other times it’s completely inappropriate and it just feels exhausting.
So what’s the antidote? We have to find the strength to switch everything else off and focus on one thing to the exclusion of all else. It’s very luxurious and zen just to do one thing at a time and be completely absorbed by it. It’s also efficient. It gets the job done.
It’s enough already that we have to split our focus between money-earning tasks and all those other jobs which need doing in our businesses and our lives. But my top recommendation would be to keep interruptions to the minimum.
- Do you need to be so available on the phone or could some or all of your business calls be by appointment?
- Do you need to have all your social media platforms open constantly and be surfing them and splitting focus?
- Do you need to have Skype open so others can interrupt at their convenience, not yours?
Only you can decide. But I suspect multi-tasking is a drug and we should be finding ways to wean ourselves off it. No so far that you cannot cope with multiple demands when the occasion requires it but as a general way of being, as an addiction? Non, merci.
