What Do You Want Your Business to Do for You?

It all began with two calls last weekend. One from a man who is one of my PWYW ad hoc clients. I hadn’t heard from him for the entirety of 2016 so it was a special delight to see him booked into my diary on Saturday.
And, on Sunday, a former client who has become a friend wanted to have a formal-ish pick my brains session about money and business.
Both of them are high achievers. Both of them are sick of business feeling “hard”. Both conversations speedily ended up in the place of “What’s it all about, Alfie?”
I was reminded of the story of the Harvard guy who tries to teach the Brazilian fisherman what it’s all about.
And for me it’s all about it being easy, and – in 2017 – joyful too.
So the question arises: What do you want your business to do for you?
Currently I want mine to pay my bills from work which makes a difference. Twin goals mostly achieved most of the time.
My Sunday friend wanted a Plan B, in case everything else fell to bits. She wants her business to make her feel secure.
My Saturday client still has ambitions to prove something to himself/other people via “a successful business” which, to my eyes, he already has. And then some.
Both of them shared their financial circumstances with me and I showed them an easier way to achieve their ends.
But it is a question worth asking yourself – why are you doing what you are doing, and have you picked the hard way to do it?
